STORY
Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit saith the Lord.
Word of God Church & Ministries got its start when, in November of 2000, Bishop Eric W. Davis, (then Minister Davis) answered the call to became Pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and presided over his first worship service with a group of 30 members in a small room at Bluff Road Park. Over the following 2 years God blessed the ministry to grow and prosper, and in March 2003 Pastor Davis received a vision from God to change the name of the church and establish Word of God Church & Ministries.
Under Pastor Davis’s leadership, Word of God Church & Ministries acquired the former Columbia East Shopping Plaza located at 7355 Garner’s Ferry Rd in October 2005. The 8-acre property was consecrated and converted to a ministry complex housing a 1,000-seat sanctuary, over 50 ministries, and several businesses.
In 2007 a second church, WOG Espanol, a Spanish speaking congregation was launched and added to the complex. Also, Camp David, a 74-acre campground facility in Bishopville, SC was acquired. It serves as the future summer camp and convention site for WOG International.
By 2010, the Garner’s Ferry location was outgrown and the new Dutch Square campus at 119 Diamond Lane was purchased. In January 2013, Pastor Davis led the congregation into the new 25,000 square foot sanctuary for the Inaugural Worship Service and later thatsame year our church family expanded to include new branches and locations in Baltimore, Mexico, Ghana, and Sierra Leone.
In August 2014, Word of God Church and Ministries International held its first annual Holy Convocation and Pastor Davis was elected and ordained as Bishop.
Our church has continued to seek ways to better inspire and enrich our community. In that spirit, Compass Studios, a full media and animation production studio has been added to the Garner’s Ferry campus (now WOG Southeast) and Re Creation Athletic Arena was recently built at the Diamond Lane location.
We are proud of our church and the accomplishments we have made, but we realize that it’s only through the Grace and Goodness of God that we are where we are.
